In my last post I pointed out some of the problems with state sponsored education efforts. For one thing, the state cannot help but teach a single worldview and if there is no concensus in the country over what that worldview should be, then there is no option but for some people to force their worldview on the rest. (A quick spin through my archives will turn up several other posts on this issue, including Freeeedom! Also, check out the comments on the previous post). In other words, if there is is no general agreement on what God and the universe is like, democracy cannot long stand, and some form of totalitarianism will step in to provide order. We are starting to see this inthe U.S., but Canada is even farther down that road. I encourage you to read this First Things article about some of the crazy things the government is doing up there.
