In another update, US News and World Report’s John Leo reports on how free speech is being trumped by anti-discrimination laws in Canada. I’m afraid in the end it won’t be just in Canada and it won’t be just free speech that gets trumped.
For example, the anti-discrimination card is being played to keep school board members from following their conscience in Westminster, CA (see original post on this story here.) The fight is over whether to let students decide their own gender and its getting nasty.
Unfortunately, the discrimination argument is nothing but a smokescreen and has nothing to do with the real issue. Choosing to be male or female or gay or bi or whatever is not even close to the same as being born with a certain skin color. As I said last month, Martin Luther King Jr would be horrified.
