So I saw The Passion last night and it clarified for me why there was such a polarity between the reviews of Christians and non-Christians (see Feb 25th post below). If I didn’t believe Jesus actually is the Son of God who suffered and died for the sins of the world, I would have hated this movie. I do believe the story is true so I was able to make it through (I probably won’t watch it again), but gosh, if The Passion isn’t a portrayal of actual events (at least in the general sense – Mel took some artistic license with the Biblical accounts) that had a huge transcendent meaning, and in particular if Jesus didn’t actually rise from the dead after all His suffering, then this is just a senseless bloodbath of a movie.
