A couple of great op-ed articles in the LA Times today:

First, Salman Rushdie argues that democracy is about the freedom to offend and be offended. He cites the British government’s recent proposal of a law to ban "incitement to religious hatred" as an example of Western Society’s drift away from freedom and towards the policing of thoughts and ideas.

Second, David Klinghoffer tries to convince readers that one of the great needs of our society is to debate God, openly and rationally. Exactly. That is why I do what I do.

Freedom of speech used to debate God and religion. What could be better? Looks like I won’t cancel my Times subscription just yet.
