A month ago I wrote that pride is at the root of most evil, including the competing acts of degradation perpetrated by terrorists and American soldiers in Iraq. In today’s LA times, Jessica Stern backs me up with an in depth study of what drives terrorism. After extensive research, she discovered that the number one factor is a feeling of humiliation on behalf of the terrorists. In other words, they feel that they have been treated in a manner not befitting their perceived great worth. Their pride has been offended and in order to restore it and show the world how strong and powerful they “really” are they need to humiliate the enemy. This, of course, results with a response in kind. And so it will continue, as I said before, until the One before whom all will bow returns to give everyone a little perspective.
